WYD 2011 the Pope’s youthfulness

The World Youth Days (WDY) are a great opportunity for the Christian youth from around the world to meet the Pope and to celebrate their faith together. The activities are not only for Catholics but for all young people who wish to live an unforgettable experience of prayer andsharing. From August 16 to August 21, two million young adults from two hundred countries came together to live this experience in Madrid, Spain.

Preparation

Such an event demands a rigorous preparation. Upon their arrival the participants were guided to different homes either in Madrid or in surrounding areas; others took shelter in community halls, school gymnasiums converted into dorms for the occasion. During their stay in Spain they were welcomed and accompanied by the organizers of the event. However, for the participants, their preparation for WYD was more than having to decide what they would put in their suitcases.
